Mangrowe

An installation made for the Singapore Biennale 2013 event. The body of the object is made of multiple layers of wood. On top of this is a large black and white stripe vinyl balloon with 5 ‘branches’ extending outwards. A time-relayed air blower is placed within the wooden body that blows air into the balloon at time intervals such that the balloon moves slightly looking as if it is ‘breathing’.

The structure of the object is reminiscent of mangrove trees of the tropics, a common species found in the coastal regions of Singapore. The work represents growth and sustainability.
